The site of Twelve-Mile settlement represents early settlement and hospitality in the goldmining era of Meekatharra’s history.
The Twelve-Mile was the common name for the settlement of Yaloginda, located halfway between Meekatharra and Nannine. The Hotel at the Twelve-Mile was an overnight stop for the coaches that ran from Cue to Meekatharra before the railway line was built between the towns (to Nannine in 1903 and Meekatharra in 1910). Owners of the Hotel, which was known as the Shamrock Wayside Inn at least for a time, included Patrick Morrissey and lastly the Johns family, who also had a small pastoral lease 'Eden Hope'. The Hotel closed in the 1940s and the only other building in the settlement - a house occupied by George (Kingie) Johns - had disappeared by 1950.
