Statement of Significance

The site represents a way of life no longer practiced.

History

The Lake Carmody School opened on 2 February 1931 with Mr
Colin Lee as the teacher, with 11 students. A proper school building had been granted by the
Education Department. Mr Lee boarded with the Commons family. By July 1932, lack of the
required minimum number of 8 students forced the closure of the school, and the building was
relocated to North Newdegate. Later it was moved to Lake Varley on the present school site, where it
opened in 1945.
