Headmaster’s House (fmr) represents associations with Brookton State School (demolished), on the adjacent site in Richardson Street and a specific way of life for the Headmaster and family in the residence provided for that position. It is representative of the period and design provided by the Education Department for country headmasters.
Single storey timber framed residence with painted weatherboard cladding and a high-pitched gable pavilion roof clad with painted corrugated iron sheeting. The roof covers a front verandah. French doors open onto the verandah. Windows are timber framed multi-paned double sashes. The school was located immediately behind the Headmaster’s House (fmr), but is no longer insitu with only remnants of the anthill tennis courts remaining.
Gwalia Headmaster’s House.c.1899, demonstrates the same design, although it is fire damaged, derelict and unable to be occupied.
