Retain and conserve if possible; endeavour to conserve the significance of the place through the provisions of the town planning scheme: photographically record the place prior to any major redevelopment.

Statement of Significance

Pinch Gut Well has some local historic significance only for its association with the sandalwood industry and as a source of much needed water.

Physical Description

Site not visited. The well is stone lined.

History

Tom Berrigan put several wells down including Pinch Gut, which was named as such because the water gave those who drank it a stomach ache. It is located in the path of a creek and consequently has often been washed out. The well is on an old sandalwood cutters' track. (Heydon, p68)
