Statement of Significance

STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE The following statement, is taken from the gazetted permanent State Register Entry for the place, as the reasons for its cultural heritage significance: Perth Girls' School (fmr) has cultural heritage significance for the following reasons:
+ the building is a particularly fine example of the use of the Inter-War Stripped Classical style;
+ the building is a prominent landmark in the area;
+ the building design is of particular note as it is of a scale and prominence more often associated with parliamentary and large government departments than with a state school building;
+ the monumental scale of the building reflects the status afforded to a particular educational philosophy and the government's optimism for the future of Perth;
+ the award of the RIBA Bronze Medal in 1939, demonstrates the high professional regard for the building design at the time of construction;
and,
+ the building demonstrates a particular phase in the philosophy of female education, a philosophy that is no longer evident in Western Australia.

Physical Description

Symmetrical building with dominant, rectangular, prismatic roof.
There is a format entrance with stone piers.
