Statement of Significance

Point Torment is significant in the history of the settlement of Derby and the history of the port.

Physical Description

There is currently a lighthouse at Point Torment.

History

Point Torment was a landing point for early mariners in the period 1818 to the 1880's. It was considered as a site for relocating the Derby Port in the 1880's due to the shortcomings of the chosen site. However the idea was abandoned due to the failure of well sinkers to find fresh water.
