Ravensthorpe Telegraph Station was opened on 29.11.1901. This was a notable occasion, especially as it had
metallic wire which meant two wires and line repairer and party lines to Kundip and Desmond,
The first telegram was sent from Ravensthorpe by Mr W Jamieson on 21.1.1901. Telephone connections
were made to Hopetoun in 1908 and extension and alteration of the building was made in 1910 by contractors
Havercroft and Son. Telephone lines were erected in Ravensthorpe in 1910.
Telegrams were sent by morse code in the 1920's through the Telegraph Line to Albany. li was downgraded
to an Allowance Office in November 1930 and the manual telephone exchange was taken over by automatic
telephones in 1976.
As a post office, it was closed in July 1993 and the agency was taken over by Ravensthorpc Supermarket. Al
present, part of the building is occupied as a private residence and the post office and telegraph room are
occupied by the Telecentre.
The Ravensthorpe Telegraph Station and Post Office was built in 1901 and was constructed with a timber
frame. Previously there was a Ravensthorpe Receiving Office from December 1900 operating from FE Daw's
first shop. Lot 75 Morgans Street.
