Statement of Significance

An attractive group of buildings designed in the Queen Anne and old English style, set within picturesque landscaped grounds, which combine to produce a pleasing environment. The place is valued by the community as one of the first major commercial tourism sites in the locality.

Physical Description

The Elizabethan Village comprises a group of buildings in the Queen Anne & Old English style, accurately replicating buildings in the Stratford-on-Avon - notably Anne Hathaway's Cottage, Cobweb Restaurant & Shakespeare's birthplace. The buildings are typically constructed with a combination of face-brick, rendered brick and timber, replicating the half-timbered effect to the walls, and feature steeply-pitched tiled, thatch or shingled roofs, robust stone chimneys, and timber-framed lead-light windows. The buildings are set in extensive gardens with lawns and mature trees, connected by a network of winding roads designed to replicate the layout of a village.

History

Faux 'Elizabethan' replicas of Stratford-on-Avon built in 1977 for tourism purposes.
