Aboriginal community's role in the local community as noted by the performance of a ceremony to
mark the opening. It is of some aesthetic significance as a local landmark.

Physical Description

The Wangara Boomerang at 500 Wanneroo Road is located at Luisini Park, Reserve 34669 on the
east side of Wanneroo Road. The boomerang is a tall yellow metal sculpture/structure which is
approximately 9 metres in height and weights approximately 2.5 tons and sits on a stone base in
Luisini Park on the east side of Wanneroo Road. There is a plaque at the base of the boomerang.

History

The name of the suburb of Wangara was created by combining the names of the two main roads,
Wanneroo and Gnangara, adjoining it. The name was approved in 1980.
Luisini Park was named because the industrial area was formerly part of the part of vineyard of that
name.
Luisini Park, Reserve 34669 where the boomerang is located, was vested in the City of Wanneroo on
the 12 August 1977 following the survey diagram approved 1 January 1976.
The boomerang was erected on the 25 July 1983 by the City of Wanneroo in acknowledgement of the
Wanneroo Trade Centre and as a landmark in the City of Wanneroo. Members of the Nyoongar
community performed at the opening ceremony.
It was believed to have been the largest boomerang in the world at this time and was entered for
inclusion to the Guinness book of records. The Plaque at the base of the boomerang acknowledges
the following;
Conceptual Design - Shire of Wanneroo
Structural Design - Mier Chadwick & Associates
Building Constractor- Commercial Constructions
Steel Fabricator - Barnard Enterprises
