The War Memorial has local historic significance for its association with the two world wars. Further the site has social significance as a reminder of the local people who lost their lives during the wars. The Memorial is representative of other War Memorials in country towns in terms of its scale, form and prominent location.
Located on a prominent site in the Carnamah townsite, the War Memorial is a granite plinth set in a small garden. Standing on a three tiered base, the memorial is 3 XA metres high and tapered to the top. Four similar but smaller granite plinths are located in front (to the east) of the memorial. These
originally surrounded the memorial and were linked by a chain. Cement slabs surround the memorial.
The white marble plaque on the memorial has the names in black letters of those who gave their lives in the two world wars from both Carnamah and Coorow.
The War Memorial was built in 1931 by public subscription. At that time the towns of Coorow and Carnamah were jointly administered. (Local Information Sheet)
