Historic Value – Importance for the density of diversity of cultural features illustrating the human occupation and evolution of the locality.
Social Value – Importance as a place highly valued by a community for reasons of social, cultural and education associations. The site is of importance as the newspaper played an important role in the local community; documenting the lives and achievements of the people in the region and providing a forum for the sharing of viewpoints.
The newspaper began publications around 1905 and began printing from this site after originally being located on the corner of Olivia Terrace and Johnston Street. The building was demolished during a cyclone.
