History

The land was first selected by George Fletcher Moore in 1843, but was not settled. In 1830, Saul and Sarah Spice and their 6 children (William, Mary, Elizabeth, Jane , John & Robert) came to the colony. After taking up land in Perth, in 1843, they purchased WL Brockman's 'Brockhill' in the Chittering Valley, and settled in 1848. In 1854 John Spice took up location 99 and established 'Goyamin'. William J Spice (John Spice's son) married Mary Anne Ferguson in 1871, and about the time their son Louis John was born, in 1879, they moved into the 'Brockhill' house, after he inherited it.
In 1940, the Bush family purchased the property and lived in the original homestead until 1947.
