RETAIN AND CONSERVE IF POSSIBLE Retain and conserve if possible: provide maximum encouragement to the owner to conserve the significance of the place. Photographic record required prior to any major redevelopment or demolition.

Statement of Significance

This kiln has significance for its links with John Pappas, early kiln operator and land owner in the
Neerabup area and ias an early example of such kilns.

Physical Description

Located on a ridge in the middle of the block, this is a single kiln with doors and arches partially
collapsed when seen during a site visit in December 2002.

History

The kiln is believed to have been associated with John Pappas from 1920s, and as such would have
been his first kiln. It was at its highest level of use during the depression years. However, there is no
documentary evidence to support the Pappas story.
