Statement of Significance

As part of the Katanning Research Station, Austin Lea has some scientific and social value as a research station but has little historic value to its recent establishment (1981). Two buildings on the site are associated with the earlier use of the property as a private farm but are of little to local significance.

Physical Description

Austin Lea forms part of the larger Katanning Research Station, comprising a cluster of 6 orthogonally aligned buildngs including a house and five agricultural buildings. It is located 3 km from the Katanning Research Station. The agricultural buildings are predominately constructed of corrugated iron sheeting.
