Statement of Significance

Significant for the ways that water was used before technology and built tanks. This type of system is significant to the area suitable for economic conservation. Providing a natural supply of water to the community or stock.

Physical Description

Set just south of the Geelakin rocks and tank. The well is of clay and has little or no water and has been fenced off from wildlife. The area arond the well is cleared with low vegetation.

History

This well was used by pastoralists in the late 1800's as well as surveyors and sandalwood cutters and prospectors. Water being a scarce commodity they followed treks from when the explorers made their way through these areas. Geelakin was named by C.C. Hunt in 1864 when he was on his exploration. This was orginially spelt Gelackin on his exploration plan 25 sheet 1. Picnic days were had around this well.
