The building has architectural and social significance, being well designed for the climate and uses to which it is put and being a well used community centre.
This modern single storey building is set back from French Avenue in well-maintained gardens. The building is designed with major functions in the form of "wings", with external walls on three sides, to provide cross ventilation. There is a half-width front verandah to provide weather protection to the entry.
There is a plaque by the front door, with the following inscription:
This Centre
was constructed with funds provided
by
the Commonwealth and State Governments
Merredin Shire Council and Merredin Senior Centre Committee
to replace the original centre which commenced operating in 1971
was officially opened by
The Hon. J. McM Brown M.L.C., JP
Member for South East Province
on
Saturday, 24th March 1984
J.H. Crook Shire President
R Littie Shire Clerk
The fabric of the original building is intact and the place appears as*constructed from French Avenue. However, the kitchen extension with different wall materials detracts from the building's overall integrity.
