Statement of Significance

Annean Station shearing shed demonstrates associations with the pastoral station that was established in the 1880s, and Connolly who sparked the Meekatharra gold rush in that area.

History

Annean Station was established on Lake Annean in 1882. In the early 1890s James Connelly discovered a nugget that started the Meekatharra goldrush. He carved an incription in “Connolly Tree’ on the property. The shed was originally located at Shed Mill, 10kms from the Nannine railway siding and 20kms from the Annean homestead, but when transport options improved the shed was moved in 1927 to its present location nearer the homestead. When relocated, the 10-stands were reduced to 8. The shed is of timber and iron construction with internal gratings and yards in pine. The extension on the roof is for the Ferrier wool press. Annean Station now stocks only cattle.
