Physical Description

A single storey building with a vertical emphasis, derived from arched door and window openings, chimney and central vent/weathercock. The original main entry through two corner arch-ways has been blocked off and relocated to the western end of the building on Barrack Street. There have been additions under skillion roofs on the north and west sides.

History

There is a Bicentennial Plaque mounted on the corner pillar, with the following inscription:
"This classical style Post Office was opened for business on May 26th, 1913. The red brick used can be seen surrounding this plaque.
Mr Albert Iver Drake was appointed Postmaster, working seven days a week
from 7.30 am to 8.30pm with letters being delivered every day of the week."

Integrity/Authenticity

The building is much altered and has low integrity, although the outline of the original can still be clearly observed.
Modifications: Front entrance and door at corner blocked off; much altered
inside; external additions.
