The group of buildings constitutes a now unique and intact railway installation dating from the 1880’s when the railway between the port and the capital was installed. The group is an example of the architectural genius of George Temple Poole. Claremont Station has strong local appeal.
The Railway Station, built in 1886 and later, to the design of George Temple Poole, comprises a main platform, timber and stone station built with cantilevered awning and attached 2 storied Station Master's House, island platform with timber Retirement Rooms and cantilevered awnings, signal box, timber overhead bridge, and goods shed clad in corrugated iron.
