Statement of Significance

House, 83 marmion Street, is a single storey timber and iron house dating from 1913. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Federation Bungalow style of architecture.

Physical Description

House, 83 Marmion Street is a single storey timber and zincalume house constructed as a simple example of the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are timber framed and clad with painted timber boards. The roof is hipped and gabled and clad with zincalume. The gable has a timber roof vent. The verandah is under a dropped flat roof supported by timber posts. The asymmetrical front façade has a main door and timber framed double hung sash windows under the verandah roof, and matching windows to the side, with a zincalume awning over, supported by timber brackets. The house is situated on timber stumps and has a concrete verandah.

History

The Metropolitan Sewerage map sheet 2118 dated August 1914 shows a narrow timber house with a front verandah, an extension towards the rear on the right hand side of the dwelling facing the house from the road and 2 or 3 outbuildings in the rear of the block.
