The Houses 20 Roxwell Way have historic social and aesthetic significance as a typical exammple of
late twentieth century public housing within the City of Wanneroo..
HOUSES 20 ROXWELL WAY are located at Lot 133, Girrawheen within the City of Wanneroo's South
Ward. The development comprises of 10 single units and 3 quadruplex (4 attached units each) which
are arranged both sides of the crescent configuration of Roxwell Way.
The single storey houses are built from dark brown face brick with tile roofs and aluminium framed
windows. There are trees extant including eucalyptus and metal fencing dividing and fronting the
houses.
'Girrawheen' is an eastern states Aboriginal word meaning 'place of flowers' and was established in
1970 as a predominantly public housing suburb.
The 10 single units and 3 quadruplex units at 20 Roxwell Way were developed by Homeswest
(formerly State Housing Commission of Western Australia) for public rental accommodation for low to
moderate income families in Girrawheen within the City of Wanneroo. Construction of the cluster
development (as described on the site plan) was approved in 1980.
Currently (2004), Houses, 20 Roxwell Way are owned and managed by the Department of Housing
and Works (DHW) and continue to be occupied for public housing.
