The site of the Yarra Cottage has high historic significance as the original house of the MacPherson family, the first pioneers of the district.
Located on the Petan Creek south-west of Carnamah, the Yarra Cottage Site is situated approximately 100 metres east of the Carnamah-Eneabba Road. The site is marked by a large rock with a plaque to commemorate the site which is the original MacPherson Homestead. All that remains of the cottage is some rubble. Nearby are three windmills sunk into the creek bed.
This site is believed to have been the original MacPherson homestead.
