Statement of Significance

House, 157 South Terrace, is a single storey Victorian Georgian house dating from c1900. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Victorian Georgian style of architecture.

Physical Description

157 South Terrace is a single storey, masonry and iron house designed as an example of the Victorian Georgian style of architecture. The walls are rendered masonry. The roof is hipped and clad with corrugated iron. The verandah has a continuous corrugated iron roof supported on timber posts with decorative timber brackets. There is a rendered chimney evident. There is a high rendered masonry wall to the front boundary line making further description difficult.

History

This place was included on the list of heritage places in the City of Fremantle identified by the Fremantle Society in 1979/80.
