This staging Inn. Which is over 100 years old, has a strong historical significance from an age before the motor car, and before the railway linked the southern towns. Along with the Anchor & Hope Inn, it is the finest remaining staging inn and particularly important because of the existence of the surviving barns and outbuildings.
The Blackwood Inn is built of brick has a corrugated iron roof and is one room deep with a verandah along the front. It is intact and occupied by families though it is no longer licensed. The outbuilding across the South Western Highway are also interesting, The oldest is built of rough jarrah slabs but has lost its roof, The two other barns, of timber, brick & iron are still used, The group is particularly well sited in a valley beside a creek.
