Statement of Significance

House, 127 Marmion Street, is a single storey timber and iron house dating from c1925. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Federation Bungalow style of architecture.

Physical Description

House, 127 Marmion Street is a single storey timber and zincalume house constructed in the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are timber framed and clad with painted timber boards. The roof is hipped and gabled and clad with zincalume, with exposed rafters. There is a chimney and chimney pot evident. The verandah stretches across the entire front of the house, and is supported by timber posts with a timber balustrade. The symmetrical façade has a main door flanked by timber framed double hung sash windows. The house is situated at street level. There is a recycled brick and steel picket fence to the front boundary line.

History

The Metropolitan Sewerage map sheet 2133 dated November 1928 shows a timber dwelling (previously no. 200, crossed out and replaced with no. 127 on the plan) with a front verandah. There is a rear verandah on the major part of the rear wall, with the exception of the right hand corner.
