Jayes Homestead and site is significant for it's representation of early settlement of the south west of Western Australia and for it's connection with the pioneering Lee Steere Family.
The original homestead was constructed of bricks made on the property and shingles. The building was later extended in weatherboard and iron. The building collapsed during a strom in the 1980's and is now a ruin.
The homestead was the home of the pioneering Lee Steere Family who settled at Jayes in 1861.
