History

The catholic presence in Mukinbudin dates back to Jimmy O'Toole in
1910. By the time the Mukinbudin Hall was built in 1923, there were 20 Catholics attending mass by Father O'Malley in the hall, four times a year (from Goomalling by train). Services continued in the hall until 1939, when the CWA rooms were used, until the Junior Farmers' hall was built in 1954, and mass was held there. The block for the church was donated by E. J. (Snowy) Erickson. In 1954, it was decided to start building the church. The bricks were made on the site, at busy bees, by members of the local community, and the Priest at the time, Father Placid. Morning teas were supplied by Mrs Erickson and the town Catholics. Sand was carted from Fagan's Creek, by shovelling on and off trucks during busy bees in which many members of the Catholic community worked. The church opened on 13 November 1955, by Lord Abbot Gomez OSB of New Norcia. Services were held monthly in the church, and Mr & Mrs Erickson's home opposite the church was welcome to the visiting priests.
