Old Cottesloe Post Office and Telephone Exchange
Single storey building, 1897-8, occupying a corner site and surrounded by a verandah supported on
wooden posts. Painted coursed limestone rubble walls with rusticated groins, and corrugated iron roof.
Outer walls 16 inches thick, jarrah floors laid directly onto a pounded limestone foundation. Original roof,
doors and ceilings. Windows had been replaced in 1920. Recent renovations did not use original
materials thus affecting integrity of the building.
2002 Reassessment: This telephone exchange is significant as the first telephone exchange in the area and the third in the Perth metropolitan area.
Builder: Leggo & Clague.
Additional Comment: On the State Heritage Register.
