Statement of Significance

The building is interesting as an example of the work of an early architectural firm. It has been an important social centre in Geraldton for over 70 years, being used for dances, plays, concerts and civic functions. It is typical of the large civic halls erected at the period and is one of the few remaining important buildings of Geraldton's early years.

Physical Description

Designed by Odham & Cox and erected in 1907 the town hall is a stuccoed classical style rectangular building with asbestos roof and wooden floors. It was built to accommodate 1100 people, 700 in the body of the hall and 400 in the galleries. It has been unaltered over the years and is in sound condition apart from the need for normal maintenance. It is listed as Grade 1 in the Schedule of Significant places in Geraldton in the Northampton Dongara Geraldton Survey by Feilman & Associates funded by the National Estate.
