Statement of Significance

The only one of it's type in the district to be preserved. Will be one of three of the curved corrugated iron style of construction to be preserved. Is located in it's original place and was one of five built in the district by CBH.

Physical Description

A corrugated iron roofed and walled building with bush poles as roof supports. The building is 200 feet long, 46 feet wide, the highest point is 24 feet and it had a capacity of 3000 tons. The floor is of galvanised iron sheets.

History

This was the second such bin on this site.The original was built in 1933 and demolished in 1936 when this structure was built by CBH. It was one of the first such bins and is the only one of the original five still standing. It was decommissioned in 1972 when a new silo ws built on another site to the East of the town. It was saved from demolition in 1980 and opened as a musuem in 1981. Ownership was given by CBH to the Shire of Wyalkatchem in 1998. A conseervation plan was drawn up in the same yearwith a grant from the Lotteries Commission.

Condition

Good. But is showing signs of ageing in the floor and lower wall panels.
