Statement of Significance

The site represents associations with war and settlement.

Physical Description

Constructed in the 1950's, thw stone memorial rises vertically from a stepped stone path.

History

The local branch of the RSL erected the memorial with many mebers contibuting to the several busy bees. The memorial commemorates local people who paid the ultimate sacrifice in World War I and World War II;"Lest we Forget".
In 1941, it was proposed that a new bore be installed at Bindi Bindi. It ws further recommended that a well be sunk and a tank installed. The government undertook to investigate the situation in the mid 1940's and take a regional view. Nothing eventuated.
Until 1988 the town and surrounding community of Bindi Bindi did not have a reticulated water supply. After many years of lobbying by Doug Tierney of the Rural Water Council and the Moora Shire and with the help of Ernie Brdge, water ws finally piped from Balidu to Bindi Bindi. It is an extension of the Goldfields ad Agricultural water Supply scheme. It was turned on 113 years after settlement. The Bindi Bindi community supplied machinery and labour to t=bring the water pipeline from Miling ot Bindi Bindi (16kms). A memorial we erected on the same site as the war memorial, commemorating the opeing of the water supply by the Minister for Water resources, Ernie Bridge on 26th February 1988. The opeing ceremony included the local school children, the local community and past members of the community.
