Statement of Significance

A major water source in the Cowcowing District.

Physical Description

A large earth dam with concrete channels to bring water from the surronding catchment area. The dam was built below the surrounding area and covered with a corrugated iron roof supported on a wooden frame.

History

Built during the Depression years and in use until the 1970's. A pump run by a Lister Diesel engine was used to raise the water from the Dam to a standpipe close to the road. Water was used by farmers and carted in tankers. If the town of Cowcowing had been built, this would have been the water supply.

Condition

Poor- there has been little or no maintenance since it was last used. The roof has collapse and a quantity of roofing mateial has been remove leavint the rest to the elements. The diesel motor has been removed and is in the CBH Museum in town.
