Polelle Station Shearing shed, constructed from various other buildings in the region, is a tribute to the ingenuity of the pastoral development in the region.
Polelle Station was established in the 1890s by the Darlot brothers. The existing shearing shed was built in the late 1940s to replace the original low-roofed building. The engine room of the Consols Mine (east of Meekatharra) was dismantled and re-erected at the station to form the basis of the shearing shed. Corrugated iron was sourced from several of the Reedys Mine houses and the windows for the shed came from the Mine's betting shop. The roof peak is 35-feet high and fitted with skylights. In 1948, another addition was made on the south side to provide more undercover space for the stock. The shed can house 450 sheep. Polelle station carried up to 9,000 sheep in the 1940s and employed a team of five shearers for three to four weeks each year. The shearing shed continues to be used, although the number of sheep carried has been reduced.
