History

In 1850, John Scott, a constable in Bunbury, married Catherine, the daughter of WJ Roberts of North Capel Farm, and settled on the north side of Gynudup Brook, on land leased from W Hutt. They built a wattle and daub cottage and called the property Stratham Park after the family home in Scotland. He employed TOL workers to drain the land and do the heavy work and also to make shoes and household items. TOL Edward Ashby tutored the children.
The Scott brothers owned land at the crossroads where John Scott was postmaster. Scotts had ten children who lived in the four room brick and stone cottage with a separate dormitory for the boys. They kept pigs and smoked bacon and fish in the smoke house, also milk and butter. John's brother at Roselands provided kangaroo meat for both families.
In 1880, John died, and Catherine applied to the owner John McCleery to purchase the property and was refused, so she just carried on. Catherine's son George took up 100 acres close by and called the farm Sunnyside. (see ref No. 83 ) C. F. Roberts Stratham Park 1895, breeding horses.
Georgina Bourne, the great granddaughter of Catherine (nee Roberts) and John Scott Jnr. Georgina's husband Wally and herself went to live in the homestead.
