Statement of Significance

Brookton War Memorial commemorates those of the district who served their country during war times. The landscaped setting contributes to a revered sense of place and a landmark tribute in Brookton.

Physical Description

Stone column & plinth on a concrete base. Brass plaque commemorates those who died in the two World Wars. A 25 pounder field artillery gun used in World War Two from Army Defence Supply Stores in Nungarin was purchased and donated by XW2650 Capt. R.N.G. Meecham in honour of those who gave their lives in war. Plaques at the site commemorate those who served in the Korean and Vietnam wars.

History

The original war memorial (1919) was located in the railway reserve opposite Montys’ and the Bedford Arms Hotel until post World War Two.
