HIGH LEVEL OF PROTECTION TPS (Town Planning Scheme) High Level of protection through the Town Planning Scheme, i.e inclusion in a Heritage List prepared pursuant to Clause 5.2 of the City of Wanneroo District Planning Scheme No 2 (DPS2); provide maximum encouragement to the owner to conserve the significance of the place.

Statement of Significance

The kilns have significance for their links with the Menchetti family. Public ownership shows the social
value of these kilns. With their visibility from Wanneroo Road and intactness they also have aesthetic
value.

Physical Description

These three arch double kilns are set into a limestone rock face with a quarry nearby. The bagging
floor is almost completely overgrown. Good condition, fenced but heavy regrowth of vegetation. The
loading site above kilns is not fenced and has become overgrown. The site is adjacent to other
heritage places, such as Orchestra Shell Cave and near to Pappas Swamp.

History

The kilns were operated between 1958 and 1968 by the Neerabup Lime Company, run by Neil
Menchetti. These kilns are the only ones visible from Wanneroo Road and have relatively easy public
access.
