Statement of Significance

Berrigan's corner shop and attached residence has some local historic significance as a commercial premise which has operated in the town for many years. Further, th-3 place has considerable streetscape value, with the rendered quoining providing a decorative feature to the otherwise plain shop facade.

Physical Description

Located on a prominent corner on the main street in Carnamah, Berrigan's is a small corner shop with an attached residence. The shop is a small timber framed building which is clad with weatherboards. It has a brick facade which is truncated at the corner. The facade features double entry doors, a large timber framed double hung window to the south facade and rendered quoining to the
corners. A rendered band runs along the brick facade above the door and window. The attached house is timber framed and clad with weatherboards and fibro panelling. It has a corrugated iron dutch gable roof which is painted green. Small gables enhance the entrances to the house. The roof extends to cover
the verandahs which are supported on timber posts and are partly enclosed with louvre windows.

History

The shop has accommodated T.J. Berrigan, agent for Dalgety & Co., H.V. McKay Sunshine, Commercial Assurance as well as Dodge and Austin cars and trucks. (Heydon, p34)
