Statement of Significance

The place is of aesthetic significance as an example of a commercial building constructed during the period of economic affluence and increased development that followed the gold boom.

The place is of historic significance because it reflects he expansion and development of commerce and trade in the City of Perth in the early years of the twentieth century.

The place is a representative of a commercial building constructed in Perth during the period of development and consolidation following the gold boom.

The place is of aesthetic and historic significance as an example of the work of architect N. Wolf who designed His Majesty's Theatre.

Physical Description

Two storey hotel addressing the corner. Rendered masonry constructed with awning probably replacing original verandah. Decorative parapet with pediments; rectangular windows at first floor level; arched windows at ground floor level. Evidence that building has been restored. Original verandahs have been lost.

History

Hotel constructed in 1898 designed by N. Wolf - architect of His Majesty's Theatre and Hotel.

Hotel dates from the period of commercial expansion in Perth following the gold rush of the 1890's.
