Statement of Significance

The site of the Boogardie State Battery has high historic significance given its important role as a gold crushing facility to the local miners and prospectors.

Physical Description

Located approximately 5km north-west of Mount Magnet, the Boogardie State Battery was dismantle in 1994 to make way for the expansion of the large Saturn open pit.

History

In 1989 Western Mining Corporation's Hill 50 bought the State Battery which was situated close to its operations. The battery was one of six offered for sale by the Mint in April, the last of 60 operated by the defunct State Battery Service since 1895. [Drawn to Mt Magnet, p239] The battery was dismantled in 1995 and there has been community moves to have the structure reerected at the entrance to the town of Mt Magnet.
