Statement of Significance

STATEMENT OF SIGNIFICANCE The following statement, is taken from the gazetted permanent State Register Entry for the place, as the reasons for its cultural heritage significance: Perth Dental Hospital Main Block, a two storey brick and tile building designed in the Inter-War Stripped Classical style, has cultural heritage significance for the following reasons:
+ the place is a well designed Inter-War Stripped Classical style building with a dignified, symmetrical façade which incorporates Art-Deco motifs;
+ the place was designed by the prominent Western Australian architect Reginald Summerhayes, in association with G. A. Rowe;
+ the place, as an original component of the first and only purpose designed dental hospital and dental school in Western Australia up to 2001, demonstrates the evolution of dental treatment and changing
approaches to the dental health care;
+ the place has historic value for its role in the training of dental health care professionals in Western Australia; and,
+ the place has social value as a component of an institution that has provided an essential social service for those of limited means since its inception.
