Exceptional significance - Essential to the heritage of the locality. Rare or outstanding example.

Statement of Significance

The place is of aesthetic, historic and social significance as a stable originally associated with one of West Perth's larger homes.

Rarity value as probably the only intact stable in the City of Perth.

The place demonstrates a way of life of an era prior to the development of motorised transport.

Physical Description

Large single storey stable with medium pitched roof and half timbered and pebble dash gable ends. Largely as originally constructed although original openings currently boarded up. Building includes stables, storage for carriage and a small cottage.

History

Stable originally associated with a large residence in West Perth. Later, the house was demolished and the Aston Clinic constructed. This was subsequently demolished.

The stable opens onto Mayfair Street - originally a narrow lane of cottages behind larger more affluent properties. It is one of very few remaining outbuildings in the City of Perth.

Integrity/Authenticity

Low level of integrity.

Medium level of authenticity as it is largely as originally constructed with detail intact.
