Statement of Significance

The Changerup Hall is important as remote hall building built by and for the local community and which provided an important social and recreational hub.
Although a simple design and utilising basic fabric, the Changerup Hall is a well executed and attractive building for its type and use of fabric and detailing.

Physical Description

Cement brick asymmetrical hall building, set on a rammed earth plinth and with a sweeping hipped half gabled iron roof . The hall features plain cement rendered lintels above all the windows and doors, an enclosed entry porch and engaged piers at regular intervals along the two main elevations. A small rudimentary skillion addition at the rear also constructed of cement bricks and iron, provides toilets and there is also a separate toilet block (ladies) located several metres away from the building.

History

Built by the community. In 1953, the Bollup branch of the Farmer’s Union applied for 15 acres of the Changerup Reserve for hall and recreation purposes. In the same year the Changerup District Recreation Centre was incorporated under Incorporations Act – to provide a meeting place for the holding of sporting and other social and welfare activities by the residents.
