Statement of Significance
Historic- the people of Gnowangerup fought hard to obtain a rail, link with the Great Southern Railway
line,the line was officially opened m 1912 and the Ongerup line was opened in 1913.
Social - The railway line bought people and goods closer, prior to this the nearest railhead was
Broomehill.
Physical Description
The Gnowangerup railway line weaves its way from Tambeliup to Gnowangerup. The only siding along
this line within our shire was the Pallinup Siding. From Gnowangerup the line goes through the old
sidings of Formby, Kebaringup, Borden, Laurier. Toompup then to Ongerup.
History
The Ongerup line was
closed 1957. Borden and Ongerup were to go on to be declared townsites. The other sidings have
long since been abandoned.
Integrity/Authenticity
MODIFICATIONS Iron roof replaced with tiles.
