Statement of Significance

The Kojonup Police Station has aesthetic and historic significance. The station was built to replace the 1869 station, in the same reserve on the main street of town, thereby retaining its continuous presence on this site. The design of the station is also an attractive and well-executed example of Late Twentieth Century Stripped Classical, particularly in a regional location.

The Police Station has significance also in its association with the adjacent Police Quarters (1907).

Physical Description

A brick building, with a flat roof rectangular section, painted, with strong horizontal and rhythmic proportions particular with the fenestration and window screening, juxtaposed with a projecting gable of cream face-brick with a broad rendered banding framing the gable and a more vertical pattern of fenestration.

History

A Police Station was originally built in c1869 at this location, having previously been housed at the Old Barracks. In 1965 the new police station and courthouse were built.
