House, 269 High Street, is a single storey brick and iron house dating from 1924. The place has aesthetic value for its contribution to the streetscape and the surrounding area. It is representative of the typical building stock located within the residential areas of Fremantle. It is historically significant as a representation of typical workers' houses in the Fremantle area. The place is an example of the Federation Bungalow style of architecture.
House, 269 High Street is a single storey brick and zincalume house constructed as a simple variation of the Federation Bungalow style of Architecture. The walls are rendered brick with tuck pointed red face brick to corners and around the central door. The roof is hipped and clad with replacement zincalume. The verandah is under a continuous roof supported by square timber posts. The central front door has fanlights above and to either side. The house is situated at street level. There is a high rendered masonry and timber picket fence to the front boundary line.
As was customary in English towns, the main street of the town was named High St.
The land that house 269 High Street stands on was vacant in the 1921/22 rate period and owned by David Miner. By 1924/25 a house had been built and was owned by Hannah Emily Miner and occupied by Francis Carey. Miner was the owner/occupier in 1947. Previous to this she had several tenants.
The house was originally number 469 and was Lot 1022. It is now strata Lot 4.
