Statement of Significance

The site of 25 Mile Well is a memorial to drovers of the past.

History

Wells were located along the stock routes at regular intervals coinciding with the distance stock could be driven in a day. The wells were provided with winches to haul up water and troughs for watering the stock. The well at the 25-mile point from Meekatharra is now a memorial to the drovers of the past. It was dedicated on 4 July 1976.
