Statement of Significance

The facade is of aesthetic significance for its commanding presence in the Barrack Street streetscape. Its central position, outstanding decoration and height make it a critical unifying element in the group of buildings in which it sits.
The design of the facade is attributed to the architect E Saunders Porter, who is significant in the history of architecture in Western Australia as the designer of the Palace Hotel.
The facade represents a rare example of its stylistc type in Perth.
