EXCEPTIONAL SIGNIFICANCE: Essential to the heritage of the locality.

City of Greater Geraldton

Condition

Butterabby Graves is an undisturbed archaeological site. No visible physical structure of the hut remains, though there is evidence in change of soil surface texture to suggest the hut’s location. This corresponds to the area marked out by eight marker stones. Some grave marker stones were temporarily moved in the 1970s, but the contents of the graves remain undisturbed. The graves, being located on a small rise in the ground suffer from wind and water erosion, and there is concern that due to the shallow depths of the graves, skeletal remains could become uncovered.
