The Carnamah District High School has some local social significance for its role in education in the Shire.
The original school building is a large rectangular building of brick construction with a hipped tiled roof. This building forms an "L" shape and features a separate hip roof over the main double entry doors which are surrounded by glass panes. The brick walls are rendered to Vi height and painted cream. Windows are timber framed and double hung. There are brick extensions to the east, west and south which are quite sympathetic in scale and materials. Together with the original section they form a quadrangle.
The first school in Carnamah opened in July, 1912. The present school building opened on 13 December 1950 and now operates as the Carnamah District High School. (Westward to the Sea, p30, p86, p90 & p99) Local builder, C.J. Dallimore, was responsible for the construction of part of the school: He
was also involved with the building of the Shire Hall [Place No. 2], (Bridie Evans, Carnamah Notes, November, 1995)
