Statement of Significance

Alexander Park is of aesthetic significance as an area of public open space in an established
residential area with a significant group of Melaleuca Trees. The park is of social significance to the
local community as a venue for recreational pursuits.

Physical Description

Alexander Park is bounded by Greenpark Road (southwest), McClintock Parkway (northwest), Park
Lane (northeast) and Alexander Drive (east). The park is situated within the City of Wanneroo's
Alexander Ward and has Aiinjarra Village shopping centre Greenpark Road.
The park comprises areas of grass, trees and various shrubs including numerous Grass Trees
(Xanthorrhoea preissii) and a large established group of mature Melaleuca Trees.

History

Originally named 'Aiinjarra', an Aboriginal word for 'north' in 1977, this suburb was renamed Alexander
Heights in 1987. The name is derived from Alexander Drive, the main arterial road into the area,
named after S.B. Alexander, a Road Board Member who was very active in civic affairs. The park
was previously known as Green Park.
Alexander Heights Park - Reserve 36585 was vested in the City of Wanneroo in 9/10/87. At the
northern end (near McClintock Parkway) is Reserve 44855. A part of the park is Lot 253, currently
owned by Homeswest (Department of Housing and Works). The City of Wanneroo is pursuing a
formal transfer/ vesting at present. Council recently required renaming of northern part (above
shopping centre) to Ian Robbins Park. (Information provided by the City of Wanneroo 2004).
